Laverne Slover Yancey's Obituary
Laverne Slover Yancey, 92, of Bartlett, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2026. She was a devoted wife for nearly 60 years, a loving mother, and adored "Nana”.
Born on February 25, 1934, in Covington, Tennessee, Laverne was the eldest daughter of the late Clinton and Dorothy Slover. She graduated from Treadwell High School and later worked at Commercial Credit. Through a twist of fate, it was there that she was introduced to her future husband, Harold Yancey, by his sister. They quickly fell in love and eloped after knowing each other only five months.
Laverne's life was defined by her unwavering faith in Jesus Christ and her deep love for her family. She dedicated herself to raising four children and went to great lengths to be involved in every aspect of their lives. After Harold retired, they built "Big Bell," their home in Eads, where they spent their days fishing, growing their own delicious fruits and vegetables, and spending time with their children and many grandchildren. Their home became the heart of many family gatherings, including annual fall hayrides, Thanksgiving feasts, and Christmas celebrations. Probably the most memorable was "Cousins' Camp," a cherished tradition where lifelong memories were made with all of the grandchildren. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Fisherville and very involved with her Sunday School class. Laverne found her greatest joy in spending time with those she loved and creating memories that would be treasured for generations.
Later in life, she moved to Robinwood Retirement Community, where she made many new friends in the dining room and enjoyed activities such as bean bag baseball.
Her legacy is one of faith, love, kindness, and family. Though she will be deeply missed, those who knew and loved her find comfort in knowing she is now at peace in the presence of her Savior, Jesus Christ.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harold L. Yancey; her parents, Clinton and Dorothy Slover; and her brother, Charles Slover.
She is survived by her four children, Randall Yancey (Debbie), Janet Hensley (Rob), Cary Yancey (Lauri), and Judy Pearson (Micky); her eight grandchildren, Erin Blackwell (David), Kirk Hensley (Erica), Lindsey Smith (Spencer), Olivia Mooney (Jon), Brad Pearson (Peyton), Taylor Hull (Caleb), Reagan Yancey, and Jonathan Yancey; her five great-grandchildren—Asher, Selah, David, Charlie, and Natalie; her sister, Norma Dunivant; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will miss her greatly.
Friends and family are cordially invited to a memorial service on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at First Baptist Fisherville, 11893 Macon Road, Eads, TN 38028. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m., with the service following at 3:00 p.m. Burial will take place immediately afterward.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or First Baptist Church Fisherville.
