Laura Buxton's Obituary
Laura Mae Smith Buxton went to be with her LORD JESUS in her Heavenly home February 11, 2012. Laura, a life long resident of Memphis, was born January 30, 1920. Laura is survived by four nephews, three nieces, six great nephews and two great nieces and their families. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Homer C. Smith and William Buxton; her parents, Laura Gish Smith and Lucian D. Smith, and four siblings , Lucian Smith, Virginia Luttrell, Harriet Miles and Preston Smith. Laura and her husband Charlie Smith were members of Second Presbyterian Church and were also members of the choir during the fifties and early sixties. Laura and Charlie owned Waterways Marine, Inc. for almost twenty years and developed the business into the largest towboat supply business in the nation. For many years, Laura hosted a Women’s Bible Study in her home. Laura was a blessing to all her family. If there was a need she met it, if there was a tear she dried it, if there was an obstacle she was there to lend a hand. Laura was blessed by her Creator with physical beauty, but most importantly with an inward beauty that touched all those who knew her. Laura was loved dearly and her legacy will live on through our cherished memories. Funeral services will be at Memorial Park on Poplar, Wednesday, February 15 at 1:00 p.m. Visitation will be from Noon to 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate memorial contributions be made to Second Presbyterian Church Caring Ministry, 4055 Poplar Ave., Memphis, TN 38111 or the Church Health Center, P.
