Larry Don Sutton's Obituary
L. Don Sutton, Sr., 77, of Collierville, passed away on February 6th, 2010 at St. Francis Hospital, Memphis. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anna Myrtle Caldwell and Benjamin Franklin Sutton and his brother Bill F. Sutton. He is survived by his wife Jean Fite Sutton of 58 years and four children, Larry Sutton, Jr. (Pam) of Olive Branch, MS; Randy Sutton (Debbie) of Loveland, Ohio; Brad Sutton (Mary) of Collierville, TN and Pamela Hughes (John) of Collierville, TN. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Carol (Bill) Lane of San Diego, CA, Juanita (Ray) Miller of Independence, MO; sister-in-law, Cathy Sutton of Cantonement, FL; brother-in-law, Charles (JoAnn) Fite of Olive Branch, MS; sister-in-law, Doris Crain of Tucson, AZ and sister-in-law Jane (Robert) Williams of Memphis, TN; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Don lived his life sharing the Love and Teachings of Christ. He was a devoted member of the Community of Christ Church, where at the age of 14 he decided to serve the Lord in many areas in local, regional and World Church offices. Mr. Sutton worked for 9 yrs with Southern Railway in Memphis, TN, Cincinnati, OH and Detroit, MI; 3 yrs as Vice President with First US Corporation in Memphis, TN and 1964 to present as President and CEO of Financial Consultants of America in Memphis, TN. He served in Civic duties with the Boys and Girls Scouts of America; Commissioner of Memphis Shelby County Planning Commission; Member of Board of Directors for Court Appointed Special Advocate-Memphis and Chairman of Board of Directors for Benchmark Young Adults, Inc. in Redlands, CA. Don was born in Paris, TN and attended Grove High School. He participated in the football, basketball, baseball and track programs in school; played Semi-pro Baseball in Aberdeen, MS and numerous years of adult sports with the Park Commission in Memphis. His love for sports led to many years of officiating in football, basketball, baseball and volleyball not only in the local school systems but also on the college and International levels. During these years of dedication, he received The TSSAA Distinguished Service Recognition-1998, The A.F. Bridges Excellence Award-2000, The Memphis Amateur Sports Hall of Fame-2004 and GYAA Service Recognition for 35 years of Service in 2008. The visitation will be held 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 9 at Memorial Park Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday February 10 also at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
