I am deeply sadden and have now come to the realization that the good in this life will end. Dr. Larry McNeal spent many, many hours keeping alive the knowledge seeking inspiration I had to complete my doctorate degree. I am at a lost of words thinking about the lengthy periods spent revising and editing, not only parts of documents, better ways that man can better serve his fellow man, and how to get things done when odds are against one. Dr. Larry McNeal is missed not only as an adviser, he was a beacon. I am sure that all who knew him would agree he was good man. I am in shock and deep sadness to hear that my friend, mentor for life, dissertation committee chair, family member, who was like a father to me, passed away. Dr. McNeal: your legacy is in my daily practice at any given decision I make. You are more than inspiration to me. As my tears dropping, I want you to know that you will never be forgotten. what a loss to the Univeristy of Memphis, the City of Memphis, and the entire education community in this country. I am saddened to hear of the passing of Dr. Larry McNeal. It was my honor to serve with him as dean of the College of Education at the University of Memphis. I recruited and selected Larry as chair of the educational leadership program and had great respect for his intellect, scholarly pursuits, passion, and caring. Thinking of him brings memories of many conversations held in his office to discuss everything from pressing issues to dreams for the future. I valued his counsel and admired his leadership. He was the consummate professional, a beloved person, and he will be missed. Ric Hovda

I was so sad to hear of Dr. McNeal’s passing. I can still hear his voice saying my name when he needed me to come into his office. Dr. McNeal was a good man with a kind heart, and I know his colleagues and students will miss him dearly. Just know that he loved his family dearly and was very proud of his children. I know because he shared their many accomplishments with me during my time as his secretary at the University of Memphis. Prayers or you all for comfort during this time.
