Larry Joe Ray's Obituary
Larry Joe Ray died peacefully on February 21, 2018, at the age of 83. He was born in Miston, TN, to Joe Pierce Ray and Geneva Rambo Ray, the oldest of three children. He married his wife, Sally Spence Ray, 59 years ago and the two of them shared a contented life full of traveling, learning, and laughing. Larry enjoyed a long and full career as a salesman with G.H. Tennant Company, and he loved to play golf and tennis in his spare time. Larry Ray lived a life full of friends – he was regarded by everyone he met as the life of the party and was the best storyteller of all. Larry was a great man and a strong believer in Jesus Christ; many will remember him for the sign he posted 20 years ago on I-40 about Jesus’ love for all. Think of him when you pass that sign, heading east. But most of all, Larry Ray was surrounded and adored by his family. In addition to his beloved Sally, Larry is survived by his two sisters, Kay Malone and Rose Kaufman, both of Memphis. Larry leaves behind four children, Larry Joe Ray, Jr. (Shari), Michael Spence Ray (Brett), Jacque French (Hayden), and Susan Collins (Matthew); eight grandchildren, Rainey Segars (Coleton), Conner Ray, Landon Ray, Madeline Ray, Marin French, Reagan French, William Collins, and Ellie Collins; and one great-grand child, Teddy Segars. Visitation will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN 38119 on Sunday, February 25 from 12:00-2:00 pm, with the funeral at 2:00. In lieu of flowers, the Rays request that memorials be sent to: Missions Ministries, 2356 Glenhaven Drive, Highlands Ranch, CO 80126, with Larry Ray Memorial in the memo line.Arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave., Memphis, TN 38119 (901) 767-8930. “Celebrating Life… Behind the Stone Wall”.
