Kim Anh Thi Dang's Obituary
In loving memory of Kim Anh Thi Dang, loving wife, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. Kim Anh passed away February 21, 2015 after a courageous battle with brain cancer.Kim immigrated to this country with her parents, grandfather, and five siblings in 1975, at the age of 18, fleeing the war in Vietnam. The family settled in Lee’s Summit, where she and her siblings who were old enough to work, sought employment to help support the family. During this time, she also attended Avila University in Kansas City, Missouri, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Accounting in 1982.Pursuing her career in accounting and her husband’s career in architecture, Kim and Doug moved to Memphis, Tennessee in 1987, where she was hired by Burleigh Consulting Group as an assistant plan administrator. From the outset, Kim was driven to excel in her new career. She was certified as a Qualified Pension Administrator in 2002, became a Certified Pension Consultant in 2004, and finally became qualified to represent clients before the IRS in 2009 as an Enrolled Retirement Plan Agent. She ultimately achieved the highest professional credentials in accounting as a Retirement Plan Consultant. Kim’s professional skills and her total dedication to her clients resulted in Kim becoming a Principal of Burleigh Consulting Group in 2006.Kim’s drive to succeed was always fueled by her desire to help those around her, especially her extended family. Kim couldn’t have been more generous, loving and selfless when it came to her family. Whenever help was needed, Kim was always first in line to offer it. Even when ill with cancer, Kim always put her family’s needs and their well-being ahead of her own. Once Kim learned her condition was terminal, she sent the following email to many of her clients. “Almost 40 years ago my family and I came to this land as refugees of war from Vietnam with empty hands and bags full of broken dreams. America is a paradise. Not because of its beauty or richness but because of its people, the compassionate generous Americans who took us in. And now since my days are numbered, I am and will continue to be humbled by the love and compassion of the people around me. It means everything to be surrounded by people who truly care.” Kim’s qualities of caring deeply for others will be sorely missed by both her fellow employees and her many loyal clients.Kim is survived by her husband, Doug Tran; her mother, Toan Dang; her siblings, Kim Chi Booth, Kim Sa Resch, Fawn Lopez, Lan Tu Holem and De Dang; their respective spouses; eight nieces and nephews, and a great niece and great nephew.A celebration of Kim’s life will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home.
