KENNETH MERLE SHERMAN 1921 – 2010 The family celebrates Ken Sherman whose life ended on Sunday, May 30, 2010. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Margaret Ann McCullough Sherman; sister, Sue Locklin of Memphis; daughter, Peggy Sherman Riley and husband, R. C. of Benton; son, Kenneth Michael Sherman and wife, Debbie of Columbia, Tennessee. There are five grandchildren: Paige Eaves and husband, Forrest Robinson of Altadena, California; Chris Eaves and wife, Leslie of Arlington, Tennessee, Kelly Eaves of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Abby Forsythe and husband, Andy of Columbia, Tennessee, Russ Sherman and wife, Cindy of Columbia, Tennessee. His eight great- grandchildren are Chris Forsythe and Marine Corporal Michael Forsythe and wife, Caitlin; Ariel Bethke, Kate and Morgan Eaves; Emily, Erin and Jack Sherman. Extended family includes Roy, Jennifer, Hannah and Cole Riley of Murray and Keith, Jan, Chase and Collin Riley of Benton. Ken was born in Memphis, Tennessee; his parents were George B. and Alberta Bishop Sherman. He was preceded in death by his brother, Bob Sherman. Ken was a veteran of World War II and served as a radio operator in the 389th Headquarters Company of the 98th Infantry (Iroquois Indian) Division. Overseas service included defense of the Hawaiian Islands before going to Japan in the first Occupation Force. He was discharged with rank of Tech Sergeant. After retiring from Missouri Pacific Railroad with forty years of employment, he and Margaret moved to Hampshire, Tennessee, in 1983. He served as a docent at the President James K. Polk Ancestral Home in Columbia for 23 years.
