Kenneth R. Casstevens' Obituary
Kenneth R. Casstevens, 87, passed away peacefully May 19, 2013 with his loving family by his side. He was a man of profound faith and loved by all who knew him. He was devoted to his wife, proud of his children, and committed to his church. He expressed his love to each through quiet service and steadfast faithfulness. He was born August 29, 1925 in Jonesville, NC. He served his country in the Army Air Corps 1946-1947. Mr. Casstevens was a graduate of Furman University and Southeastern Theological Seminary. He served as pastor of Second Baptist Church in Washington, NC during his seminary training and then as assistant pastor and education director at Trinity Baptist Church in Norfolk, VA for nine years. He began working for the Navy in 1967 in Norfolk and finished his career with them in Millington, TN. He worked in personnel training and developed and taught two management seminars which were borrowed and taught at several other naval bases. His volunteer work included serving as a deacon at Second Baptist Church in Memphis, and teaching Sunday School. He truly loved teaching the Thee Together class for the past 16 years. He also served as instructor and West Tennessee coordinator for the AARP Driver Safety Program for 16 years. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Doris J. Casstevens; two children, Kenneth Casstevens, Jr. of Memphis, and Jeanne Casstevens Caldwell (Chris) of Louisville, KY; grandsons Carter and Langdon Caldwell; and niece Evelyn Long. Visitation will be Thursday, May 23rd , 11 a.m.- 1 p.m. at Second Baptist Church followed by funeral service at 1 p.m. Memorial gifts may be given to Second Baptist Church, 4680 Walnut Grove, Memphis, TN 38117.
