Ken "Bud" Gearhardt's Obituary
Ken Gearhardt, of Memphis, TN, passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2017. Ken was born on December 24, 1934 in Cape Girardeau, MO. He married Melba Murphy on August 25, 1957. They were happily married for 50 and 1/2 years at which time Melba passed away from cancer. Ken and Melba had two boys, Kevin and David. Kevin resides in Ft. Collins, CO with his wife Cathy. David and Mace live here in Memphis. Ken had 8 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Ken worked for the Dobbs Family for over 30 years as the Business Manager at Hull-Dobbs Ford and Covington Pike Honda, and continued to work for Jimmy Dobbs after retirement from the dealership. Ken wrapped up his working career as the bookkeeper for Dinstuhl’s Candy where he discovered chocolate covered grapes, his grand children’s favorite! Ken enjoyed tennis as a younger man and was a huge sports fan, particularly when it came to Memphis Tiger basketball and the St. Louis Cardinals!! Ken particularly enjoyed watching his granddaughters play lacrosse at Hutchison and visits to Colorado to spend time with his son Kevin and family. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00pm, Tuesday, August 1st at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN 38119, Reverend Bret Spiegelman will be officiating. Visitation will take place from 5pm – 7pm on Monday, July 31st, at Memorial Park Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to St. Jude Children’s Research Center.
