Kelly Low Whitaker's Obituary
Kelly Low Whitaker, 58, passed away unexpectedly at home on October 6th of a heart attack. Visitation will be held from 6pm to 8pm on Sunday, October 9, in the South Hall of Hope Church followed by a service at 12:30pm on Monday, October 10, also at Hope Church.Kelly never met a person she didn’t like, and her love for everyone was reciprocated. She was a giving person who served as a caretaker to friends and family when they were ill or troubled. Her acts of compassion enriched the lives of so many and she treated everyone with love, dignity, and respect. Kelly attended Memphis Catholic High School then following her studies at the University of Memphis she graduated from Baptist School of Nursing. She worked in the ICU where her nursing skills were exemplary and she exercised her gift of comforting people. She was a perfect wife to Mark, her devoted husband of 36 years; a model mother to her beloved sons, Nick and Eric, and a trusted friend to many. Kelly was born in Atlanta, GA on November 10, 1957 and moved to Memphis at an early age. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Gloria Low and her brother, Kurt Low. Her mother, Gloria, had thirteen brothers and sisters, all of whom were from New Orleans.Kelly loved to surround herself with friends and family – “the more the merrier”, a Cajun tradition of hospitality she inherited from her mother. She housed and fed countless souls at the “Whitaker Hotel.”She is survived by her husband, Mark, sons Nick and Eric, brothers Steve Low, Scott Low, Kent Kurkiewicz, and daughters-in-law Grace and Lindsay Whitaker. Her grandchildren, John Clayton and Noah Whitaker, were the absolute loves of her life.Everyone that knew Kelly well loved her deeply and trusted her completely. She would have wanted her spirit and love of compassion to be carried on by her friends and family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hope Church or a charity of donor’s choice.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119, “Celebrating Life… Behind the Stone Wall”.
