Katy L. Brevard's Obituary
Katy L. Brevard was called home to our Lord on Monday, May 8, 2023, while residing at the Memphis Jewish Home and Rehab.
Born April 16, 1922, in Concho County, TX to Sophronia and George Fisher. She was a strong, stylish, creative and caring individual who touched the lives of all who knew her. She was proceeded in death by her father, George Fisher, mother, Sophronia Ellis Fisher, sister Marie Fisher, brother, Doff Fisher, husband, C.T. “Buck” Brevard and granddaughter, Leslie Brevard Luther.
Following high school graduation, she served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II, where she met and married Buck Brevard in 1943. Together, they raised very active, twin boys, Olan and Rolan, until his untimely death in June 1960. She was a hard-working, dedicated mother to her two sons. In the early years, she worked in the local bank and shortly after, opened her own flower shop, eventually working and retiring from the United States Postal Service.
She moved to Memphis, TN from Austin, TX in 1985, to be closer to her family. In Memphis, she affiliated with the MezpahChapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, having formally been affiliated in Austin, TX, serving both chapters as Worthy Matron. She was a very active member of Southland Baptist Church and later at Cherokee Baptist Church.
She is survived by her children, Olan and his wife, Lynne of Memphis, TN, Rolan and his wife, Donna of Hot Springs, AR; grandchildren, Scott McMahan (Jessica) of White Hall, AR, Lindsey Brevard (Michelle) of Falls Church, VA, Heather Glasgow (Noel) of Nashville, TN; great-grandchildren Andrew McMahan, Winn McMahan, Mitchell Luther and Fisher Glasgow.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at 10:00 am at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery (5668 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN 38119). A funeral service will follow at 11:00 am. Donations can be made in memory of Katy L. Brevard to Fisher House Foundation (www.fisherhouse.org).
