Deceased also are sisters and brothers: Mary Ann, Anthony, Sarah, Frank and Joanne. Surviving are Pete and Jacquelyn.Kathryn was born with an insatiable love of music. It was at her father’s side that she would crowd near the radio to listen every Saturday to the Metropolitan Opera presented by Texaco. From early childhood she would take great joy in singing and was repeatedly set apart as possessing an exceptional “gift”– a beautiful and pure, pitch perfect lyric soprano voice. This continually fueled her burning desire –to express herself in song, “just let me sing and I’ll be happy!” Amid husband, children, home, and work, she managed to earn a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. She never regretted the choices she had made, but her mantra remained “Born to Sing, but Can’t Get out of the Kitchen.”Throughout her life she gave her time, talent and treasure to her Roman Catholic faith. Ever a choir member, and as early as age 9, she began climbing the steps to choir lofts in many houses of God. Most memorable were the Cathedral of St. Andrew as well as the Episcopal Cathedral, both in Little Rock, AR; and until her death, St. Anne Catholic Church in Memphis. In these sacred places she was most rewarded as a musician and leader in many roles of church activity. Her “once in a lifetime” career opportunity was as executive secretary to the Rotary Club of Little of Rock. In time, she was named as executive director and member of the club. In this position for 18 years, she used all her talents yearly in offering Service Above Self (the Rotary motto).A celebration of her life will begin on Thursday, July 18, with Visitation at Memorial Park Funeral Home in Memphis from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., with a rosary at 6:30 p.m. A requiem high mass will be celebrated at St. Anne Catholic Church, 706 S. Highland, Memphis, TN on Friday, July 19 at 1 p.m., followed by interment at Memorial Park on Poplar Avenue. The church welcomes family and friends for a reception at 11:30am prior to Mass.In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Anne Catholic Church.
