Kathleen Dowdy's Obituary
Kathleen Dowdy, 92, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend went to be with the Lord on January 25, 2017. She is survived by her two sons, Jerry Quay Dowdy (Lana) of Germantown, TN and Johnnie Michael Dowdy (Rachel) of Olive Branch, MS; grandsons, Jason Quay Dowdy and Jeremy Michael Dowdy (Ashley) of Memphis; two granddaughters, Kelley Norris Pinion (Jesse) of Oxford, MS and Kimberly Dowdy Sorgenfrei (Mark) of Memphis; four great grandchildren, Spencer Norris and Graham, Lucy, and Harper Sorgenfrei. Mrs. Dowdy was preceded in death by her husband, Waymond Quay Dowdy, her parents, Napoleon and Margaret Kidd; sisters, Dale Hillis, Delora Dyer, Lavada Howe, Ora Dyer, Melba Robertson and brothers, Bill and Herman Kidd. She was especially proud of her two sons and considered them her greatest accomplishment and loved them beyond measure. Her guiding principle “true successes come from within when you work hard, live purposefully, and love well” she applied instilled and encouraged in her children. The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to her friends at Germantown Baptist Church and Broadway Baptist Church as well as many others whose letters, cards, flowers, prayers, and calls and other acts of kindness and compassion brightened her day, warmed her heart and gave her strength for her journey. Kathleen died as she lived with grace, dignity, faith, gentleness and the love of family and friends. The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until her service begins 10 a.m. Friday, January 27 at Broadway Baptist Church, where she was a faithful, longtime member. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Broadway Baptist Church, 7400 Getwell Rd., Southaven, MS; Germantown Baptist Church, 9450 Poplar Ave, Germantown, TN or the charity of the donor’s choice.Her services have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave., Memphis TN 38119 (901) 767-8930. “Celebrating Life….Behind the Stone Wall.”
