Kathleen Marie Catlett Rumble's Obituary
Kathleen Marie Catlett Rumble, 100, died Saturday, October 10, 2009 at Germantown Methodist Hospital.She was a resident of Kirby Pines Retirement Community for 24 years. Kathleen was born on January 26, 1909 in Fairmount, Illinois to Achea and Willford Catlett. She was one of six children, 3 boys and 3 girls.Kathleen and her family moved to Memphis from Illinois when her husband joined the faculty of Memphis State College. She was active in the “University Wives” and served as president, later she was a member of the “Emeritus Club” and the “Old Timers”. She was an enthusiastic supporter of the University. Kathleen was a faithful member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church for 63 years. She was a member of the Loyalty Fellowship Class and the United Methodist Women. Kathleen and her husband were rosarians and active participants of the Memphis Rose Society and the Dixie Rose Club. They were avid duplicate bridge players and achieved “Life Master” status. She continued to play bridge until she was 99 years old.Kathleen was married to Dr. Heber E. Rumble for 56 years until his death. She leaves a daughter, Nancy Jo Deaton (Dr. W. Jerry) of Germantown and a son, Dr. John C. Rumble (Janet) of Jacksonville, Florida, six grandchildren, Dr. Russell Deaton (Vicki) of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Dr. Paul Deaton (Jane) of Memphis, Timothy Deaton (Harriet) of Las Vegas, Nevada, Jonni Rumble Wilkinson (Mark) of Jacksonville, Florida, Perry Rumble (Patience) of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Susan Rumble Pair of Jacksonville, Florida, 3 step grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 3 step great grandchildren.A visitation will be held Wednesday, October 14, 2009 beginning at 1:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be at 2:30 Wednesday at Memorial Park Funeral Home in the Fireside Chapel. Entombment will be at Memorial Park Mausoleum.The family requests that memorials be sent to St. Luke’s United Methodist Church or to the Charity of your choice.
