Katherine A. Sentovich's Obituary
Katherine A. (Kay) Sentovich, 89, of Germantown, TN, passed away Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at Baptist Reynolds Hospice House. Kay was born in Cedar Rapids, IA the youngest daughter of Russell and Agnes Fitzpatrick. She was born five minutes after her twin sister Mary P. Fitzpatrick, who passed away seven weeks ago.She moved with her family to Southern California in the mid 1940s where she met her loving husband John, to whom she was married for 59 years. She attended Pepperdine University and graduated with a degree in Education from Long Beach State University. Kay was a teacher and had an amazing command of the English language. She loved to read and taught English for many years and edited two novels by her son’s sister-in-law. Eventually she became the Executive Secretary for the Society of Critical Care Medicine, planning and organizing annual symposiums around the country. Her favorite past times were sketching and painting, doing crossword puzzles and being with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, who gave her great joy.A lifelong Catholic, Kay was an active member of St. Angela Merici Parish in Brea, CA and then St. Francis of Assisi when she and John moved to Cordova, TN in 1994. She was active with prison ministries, Catholic Apologetics, pro-life activities, Scripture studies and the Charismatic Renewal. After traveling to Medjugorje in the mid-80s, she helped start and organize many Marian Peace Conferences in Irvine, CA. Her Catholic Faith rooted in Jesus Christ was the most important priority of her life.Kay is survived by Cynthia (Rhett) Hailey of Germantown, TN and son J.P. (Paula) Sentovich of Rockford, IL. Kay had nine grandchildren who she loved dearly: Ryan Hailey of Los Angeles, CA, Ann-Katherine (John) Stukenborg of Memphis, John Michael Hailey of Memphis, Christopher Hailey of Nashville, Matthew Hailey of Germantown; Nicholas Sentovich of Rome, Italy, Margaret Sentovich of Dubuque, IA, and Thomas and Sarah Sentovich of Rockford, IL, brother-in-law Mike (Barbara) Sentovich of Los Alamitos, CA, sisters-in-laws Phyllis Fleming of Denton, TX and Dolores Sentovich of Longmont, CO; two special great-granddaughters Hailey and Hannah Stukenborg who loved their GG so much and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father Russell, mother Agnes and her siblings Bob, Don and Mary. Visitation will be on Thursday, April 5 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Germantown, TN from 5 p.m to 7 p.m. with the Rosary beginning at 6:15 p.m. Funeral Mass will be Friday, April 6 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help at 11:30 with luncheon immediately following in the St. Theresa Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Cordova, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Germantown, TN, or Baptist Reynolds Hospice House, Collierville, TN.
