Katherine Helms' Obituary
Katherine Davis Helms, 94, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 16, 2017 at The Blake in Oxford, MS. Born to parents, J. Lee and Emma M. Davis, she was a longtime resident of Memphis and member of Bellevue Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Gene Helms; sister, Dorothy Davis Sell; and brother, Kenneth Davis.Katherine leaves one son, Don Helms of Oxford, MS and his wife, Cathy; three grandchildren; Shane Helms (Yenifer), Nick Helms (Ashley), and Lauren Helms along with nine great-grandchildren; niece, Joy Bonano and great-nephews, Brad Bonano, Mike Bonano, and Jay Bonano.Known by friends as “Tot” and by grandchildren and caregivers as “Memaw”, she was a kind and generous lady who adored her family. She loved babies and cared for them in the church nursery for years. Katherine was also a guardian angel to animals and known to feed stray cats, dogs, birds, and squirrels.The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until the service time at 11:30 a.m. Monday, October 23, 2017 at Memorial Park Funeral Home. The service will be officiated by Rev. Joe Jernigan of Bellevue Baptist Church. A private graveside service will follow at West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery.The family expresses its sincere appreciation to the staff of The Blake and Halcyon Hospice in Oxford. In addition, the family thanks the staff of Heritage at Irene Woods and Crossroads Hospice in Memphis.
