Katherine Embry's Obituary
Katherine Palmer (Kathy) Embry, 58, a longtime resident of The Baddour Center in Senatobia, MS, was born in Memphis July 5, 1958, and died March 4, 2017, at DeSoto Healthcare in Southaven. Although born with Down Syndrome, she never knew she was different from you and me. She attended Duration Preschool, South Park Elementary, Avon Lenox School and later Martha’s Manor day program. In 1996 she moved to Baddour, where she flourished largely because of her friendly, happy nature. She earned a paycheck, learned life skills, was a hit with her Elvis impersonation, and fell in love. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Milton Embry, and the love of her life, Steve Vanek. She leaves her three sisters: Pat Embry Olhausen, Sally Embry Robertson (Gordon), and Betsy Embry Kelly (Ed); nephews Trip Robertson and Will Robertson; nieces Elizabeth Eggleston, Eleanore Maynard and Mary Milton Kelly, and lots of extended family, all of whom loved her dearly. Visitation will be at noon March 9, followed by the memorial service at 1, both at Church of the Holy Communion. The family suggests memorials be made to The Baddour Center, PO Box 97, Senatobia MS 38668, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
