Katherine M. Eddings' Obituary
Katherine M. Eddings passed away peacefully at home October 28 after an extended illness. She was born on November 11, 1938 to Frank and Anne B. McCollum. She graduated from Central High School and Rhodes College (formerly Southwestern at Memphis) with a B.A. in Psychology and attended graduate school at Indiana University. After briefly working at Miss Hutchison’s School for Girls as a math teacher, she began a 43 year career in data processing and systems design. She was a computer programmer, project leader, database administrator and system designer at Agrico Chemical, American Express, and Federal Express and retired after a 25 year career with Methodist Hospital. During the 1980’s and 90’s she was the primary systems designer for the Accounts Receivable system at Methodist Hospital. In addition to her impressive accomplishments in her field, she was a member of Lindenwood Christian Church and cared for her family with great love and devotion. She is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, William L. (Bill) Eddings, a daughter, Alex Walter (Bob), and a granddaughter, Maggie Walter. She is also survived by two nieces, Elizabeth Christofferson (Craig) and Lynn Sanders (Scott) and one great-nephew, Spencer Sanders. Katherine will be missed very, very deeply by her entire family and will be remembered for her curiosity and her love of learning, as well as for her strength and courage. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 31 from 5:00-7:00 and services will be on Saturday, November 1, at 1:00, both at Memorial Park. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119, “Behind the Stone Wall.”
