Kate Uhlmann's Obituary
Katherine (Kate) Iseman UhlmannKate Uhlmann was born February 1, 1922 to Fred and Emma Iseman and passed peacefully at the Methodist Hospice Residence on December 21, 2014. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband George Uhlmann, her son Chris Uhlmann, and her daughters Diane Uhlmann Tyson and Jan Uhlmann Weldon. She is survived by her sons Mark Uhlmann and Rob Uhlmann (Mimi); her grandchildren Kelly Tyson, David Tyson, Brenda Breedlove, Crystal Weldon, Ricky Weldon, Alex Uhlmann and Ellen Uhlmann; and great-grandchildren Abby Tyson and Harold Weldon. Kate was a devoted wife and mother, exceptionally committed to the care of her late son Chris, who was afflicted with cerebral palsy and confined to a wheelchair throughout his life. She was very active in the United Cerebral Palsy Association, and was a major force in founding the United Cerebral Palsy Life Center, and in raising funds and awareness for the UCPA. Kate was an enthusiastic supporter of all her children, tirelessly chauffeuring them to school and social events, never missing a game involving sons Mark and Rob, who were active in football, baseball, and basketball in elementary school, and who went on to play professional baseball and college football. She was a fabulous cook, who welcomed to her table her children’s and grandchildren’s friends and anyone without a place to go for holiday meals. She also graced her wide circle of friends with gifts of her delicious treats, especially her famous pocketbook rolls, fantastic pies, and traditional Christmas coffee cake.Kate and her husband George were founding members of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, where she remained a member until her death. She was former president of Madonna Circle, active in Circle Arts, former president of the Holy Rosary Mothers Club, and a former member of Les Passees.The Uhlmann family would like to express special thanks to Lisa Stiegler, Kate’s “adopted son” Mike Toarmina, and Dr. Robert Kraus for their care of and devotion to Kate over many years.Visitation will be at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, December 26, 2014 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church on Park Avenue, followed by the funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. Memorial donations may be sent to Madonna Learning Center, 7007 Poplar Avenue, Germantown, TN 38138.
