June Riley's Obituary
June W. Riley, 82, passed away on Saturday, September 5th, 2009 of a stroke. She was a retired school teacher and homemaker, born in Searcy, Arkansas but living most of her life in Memphis.She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Joseph R. Riley and is survived by her two sons, Joseph Raymond Riley Jr. of Memphis and Stewart W. Riley of Philadelphia, and her two grandchildren, James A. Riley and Kathleen M. Riley, both of Memphis.June graduated from Messick High School and Memphis State University, where she met her husband Joe. They were married on June 15th, 1951 and moved to a home near MSU, where Joe was a professor of English beginning in 1954. As an avid reader and expert cook, she enriched the lives of countless others in both mind and body. She was a fan of many sports, especially of her beloved University of Memphis Tigers, where she had season tickets for both football and basketball continuously from 1955 until her passing. She was a rosarian, along with her husband Joe, and grew and showed roses along side him for more than twenty-five years.She will be remembered as a strong, independent individualist, a loving mother and wife, and a great and true friend by all who knew her. The family asks that memorials be sent in lieu of flowers to the University of Memphis Association of Retirees Scholarship Fund, the American Rose Society, or the American Cancer Society.
