June Elliott's Obituary
Elizabeth June Elliott died peacefully with her husband of 54 years at her side on the early afternoon of Wednesday, January 6th, 2016. June struggled with several illnesses towards the end of her time here, but enjoyed a full life prior to that. Born in Baton Rouge, LA on May 23, 1941, she was a track star in elementary school. She often bragged about being faster than the second fastest kid at school, her brother Emmett Everett.She met her husband, Maurice Elliott, at a fraternity rush party at LSU when she was a senior in high school. June and Maurice dated through college and married when he graduated from LSU in 1961. Before her honeymoon, the farthest north June had been was a road trip to Kentucky. Maurice began graduate school at the University of Chicago and June supported the family by working as an executive assistant in downtown Chicago. Upon graduation her husband began working as an administrator at Baptist Memorial Hospital. June completed her college degree at Memphis State University, graduating Cum Laude.June lived in Kimbrough Woods in Germantown, TN most of her adult life. She loved playing tennis and gardening and was a founder of the Kimbrough Woods Garden Club. The neighborhood association presented her with a proclamation of appreciation and planted a tree in her honor for all of her work on behalf of the neighborhood. June’s first trip to Europe was in 1980 with good friends, Judy & Dick Williams. She fell in love with traveling and saw the world visiting Germany, England, France, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Japan, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia, the Cayman Islands, Greece, S. Korea, Turkey, Mexico, Canada, Amsterdam, and Hawaii. She was meticulous in her travel plans and kept a rich journal describing all of her experiences.She was the mother of three wonderful children; Scott, Claire, & Brent Elliott. She was also very proud of her daughter-in-law, Tara Elliott, and her son-in-law, Chris Gregory, and her four grandchildren; Taylor Elliott, Ben Elliott, Sarah Gregory, and Elliott Gregory. She was preceded in death by her son, Brent; her parents George and Sarah Everett; her brother George Everett; and her sister-in-law Rita Everett. She is survived by her brother, Emmett Everett; her sister, Marilyn Cooper; her nephew, Chris Everett; and nieces Sara Everett and Susan Dyson.The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 10 from 12:00-1:00PM with the service to immediately follow. All services will be held at Memorial Park.She will be dearly missed by her family and so many friends.
