June Holmes Davidson's Obituary
June Weiss Holmes Davidson, 102, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2023 in Germantown, Tennessee. June was born to Florence and John Weiss in Chicago, Illinois. She graduated from Amundsen High School in Chicago where she excelled academically and lettered in three varsity sports: basketball, volleyball and softball.
In 1941, June married Charles Walter Holmes of Chicago and soon after moved to New Orleans, Louisiana, where they had three children. In 1952, they moved to Memphis, Tennessee, where they raised their children and were active at Mullins Methodist Church where June spent time as the junior choir director. Charles unexpectantly passed away in 1974 and June later went to work for Employers Insurance of Wausau. In 1976, June married Minor Lee Davidson who passed away in 1999.
Called “Mossie” by her family, June was an active grandmother. Her passion was tennis which she played well into her 80s. She walked several miles a day through East Memphis neighborhoods and enjoyed riding her stationary bike every morning while reading the newspaper. When she moved to The Village at Germantown in 2006, she participated in water aerobics, line dancing and various other social activities. She also served as secretary for the Resident’s Council and sang in the First Generation singers group.
June was later an active member of Christ United Methodist Church for many years where she also sang in the choir. In her later years of life, she moved her membership to Germantown Methodist Church where she was involved in her Sunday school group.
June is preceded in death by Charles Walter Holmes, Minor Lee Davidson and her sister, Rosemary Lepley (Alden). She is survived by her children Victoria French (Russell), Charles “Bud” Holmes (Kipp) and Patricia Johnson. She is also survived by her nephew Roger Lepley (Kristy), 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff, nurses and caregivers of The Village at Germantown for their exceptional loving care for June during the past 17 years. A private graveside service will be held Thursday, June 22, 2023, and a celebration of life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
A private graveside will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery.
