June S. Coopwood's Obituary
June S. Coopwood, “Mimi”, passed away peacefully at home on January 10, 2026 at the age of 94.
She was born on June 22, 1931 in Collierville, TN to the late Malcolm B. Simmons and Martha Morton Simmons.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her childhood sweetheart and husband of 66 years, Phillip R. Coopwood; her son, Malcolm Dale Coopwood; her sister, Joan Simmons Cole; and her brother, Jimmy A. Simmons.
She was a dedicated member of Beverly Hills Baptist Church in Memphis, where she served faithfully as a Sunday School teacher and sang in the choir. She enjoyed painting, watching the birds, and admiring the beauty of flowers. Most of all, she loved her family, who brought her great joy.
She is survived by her daughters, Phyllis June Coopwood and Candace Coopwood Strickler (Eric); her eleven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by two sisters, Brenda Simmons Keith and Bonny Simmons Cothren (David), and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside Service for June will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at 12:30pm in Memorial Park Cemetery. Guests should join the funeral procession by 12:15pm at Memorial Park Funeral Home to proceed to the gravesite.
