Julia Catherine Bleier's Obituary
Julia Catherine Bleier (Hyle), age 72, passed away on late Saturday evening, October 5, after a long illness. She was predeceased by her parents Mary Catherine Hyle (McQuaid) and Howard Hopkins Hyle and brother Howard Hopkins Hyle III. She is survived by her husband Frederick Leo Bleier, her sister Margaret Ann (Kerry) Frederick and her brother Charles Thomas (Sarah) Hyle, her sons Eric Leo Bleier and Kevin McLane Bleier, and nieces and nephews.
She was born in Baltimore, Maryland and grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. She earned her bachelor’s degree at the University of Georgia, where she also met her husband-to-be Fred. They were married for 51 years. She also obtained a master’s degree in nutritional science at Cornell University.
Julie’s life was one of kind, patient service to others. After college, she worked as a research nutritionist at Emory University Hospital. She transferred these skills into helping raise her two sons as a homemaker. She nurtured a sense of wonder and curiosity in her sons: whether reading The Hobbit at bedtime, making Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles costumes for a birthday party, or engaging in philosophical conversations on walks with the family dog, she encouraged her sons to play, think, and engage. She also loved reading books and shared her love with all of her family.
Julie also served the wider community. She volunteered at local hospitals to support families while a loved one was in surgery. She also taught technical writing at Memphis State University, helping students to build confidence with their writing skills. Later in life, she explored a new dimension of wellness by becoming a certified yoga teacher. She developed a reputation for serving elderly or injured people by modifying poses to help them stretch and increase their strength, balance, and flexibility.
Julie was loved by so many and we will miss her smile, her intelligence, and her devotion to us all.
A family memorial service will be held in Atlanta. In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of your choice are appreciated.
