Judy was a native Memphian and proud graduate of both White Station High School and Memphis State University. She was a highly respected teacher at Holy Rosary in Memphis for 25 years, primarily teaching 3rd grade, until her retirement in 2015. While at Holy Rosary she was the intermediate department chair and co-chaired Holy Rosary’s accreditation efforts. She was also invited to serve as an evaluator for other area school’s accreditation efforts in the Memphis area. In 2007, the Catholic Diocese of Memphis recognized her service with the Immaculate Heart of Mary Award. Her classroom was always decked out with a large assortment of teddy bears.
She enjoyed her neighborhood community gatherings and was an active member of both sewing and garden groups. Judy did beautiful cross stitching and needlepoint, which was her favorite pastime. She was also an avid sports fan, with her favorite team being the University of Alabama’s football team.
Travel was another activity she enjoyed, especially to Gatlinburg, Tennessee and Williamsburg, Virginia. The mountains of Gatlinburg were always one of her favorite places to visit. She especially enjoyed attending the craft fairs. Judy also had an avid interest in early American history and would frequently stop to visit Williamsburg and the Smithsonian Museums while seeing her son in Washington, D.C.
Judy was warm, caring, helpful and charitable. She was always willing to listen anytime, day or night. She was a dear friend, devoted wife, and proud mother.
She leaves behind family and lifelong friends who will miss her engaging, supportive personality.
