Judy Ann Poyner's Obituary
Judy Poyner was born in Corning, Arkansas on February 10, 1949, and died on August 21, 2023 after an 18 month journey with her health. In spring of 2022, she found herself in the hospital with a ruptured bowel that required emergency surgery, the recovery was very difficult and led to health problems over the last 18 months. Judy was in physical rehabilitation at the time of her death. She fought the good fight and tried to get better, she is at peace now and that is a blessing.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Johnny Webster Poyner and Nora Marie Collins Poyner. Her sister, Betty Poyner Cate and her three brothers, JW, Denzil and William Poyner, all preceded her in death. She is survived by many nieces and nephews who she loved so much.
Judy became part of the family of Leroy and Doris Green in 1962. Doris and Judy met at the foundation department at Macon Road Church of Christ after Judy moved to Memphis, TN to start her career at FDIC. She needed a place to land as she started her life here. Leroy and Doris were known for helping anyone they could. Judy stayed and dedicated her life to the Green Family helping care for Doris’ mother until her death in 1993 and before, caring for Leroy when he was diagnosed and died from Lung cancer in 1986. The youngest child, Michael, was only 14 years old when his dad died. Judy was his second mother and made sure Michael had all the love, care and encouragement he needed to thrive after his father died so young.
Doris and Judy were best friends, but God saw fit to make them sisters on Earth. They shared their lives, their home and their beloved cats together. Their Christian faith has always been a cornerstone to their lives and Judy loved Jesus and the church. Judy was always happy to prepare a meal, sit with you in the hospital, run errands or sing at a funeral. She wanted to be the hands and feet of Jesus and love on people. Doris’ children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were also Judy’s and she loved all of them with her whole heart and soul.
Funeral Services for Judy will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at 11:00am in the Fireside Chapel at Memorial Park Funeral Home. The family will receive friends for visitation an hour prior to the service, starting at 10:00am. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
