Joyce Gillock's Obituary
Joyce Gillock of Memphis, TN passed away at the age of 82, peacefully and surrounded by her family on the evening of April 7, 2025.
She is survived by her life partner of over 30 years, Bill Humphries, children, Eddie Gillock (Tamar), Jenny Crews (Joel), Julie Holliman (Aaron), five grandchildren, Emily Lloyd, Lydia Gillock, Claire Gillock, Georgia Gillock, Serenity Gillock, seven great grandchildren, Prestin Holliman (Kaily), Savannah Hardin, Brayden Holliman, Paislee Holliman, Cayden Webster, Carter Crews, Charley Crews, and two siblings, Patty Augustine and Kenny Purdom.
She is preceded in death by her mother Dorothy Turner, three children, Sheri Martin, Roger Dowell, and Ricky Dowell, and one brother, Jimmy Purdom. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, that was known by all as Momma, Nanny, and Miss Joyce. She was known for her amazing cooking and could always make a plate for anyone that showed up, but don’t ask for her recipe. A brilliant seamstress and designer that made wedding and pageant dresses, Halloween costumes for “all the kids”, and even created her own patterns. She was a classy, beautiful southern woman that was the heart of her family and raised at least three generations of kids with love. She was a passionate supporter of Memphis basketball and Tennessee football. Her legacy of love, creativity, and generosity will be cherished by everyone that knew her.
The celebration of life service will be held from 4:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, May 29, 2025 at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave., Memphis TN 38119.
