Joyce Henry Field's Obituary
Joyce Henry Field, age 86, died January 31, 2010 at Allen Morgan Nursing Home. Mrs. Field, the daughter of John B. Henry and Jessie Coult Henry, was born April 28, 1923 in Needham, Massachusetts and went to college in Boston. She came to Memphis with her parents, who pre-deceased her. She remained close to the family of her husband, Wayne Williams, who died in the early years of their marriage. She is survived by her sister-in-law Sue Reid Williams (Mrs. Robert); her nephew, Edward R. Williams III (Sue);and her caring friends, Sue and Ken Strong, all of Memphis. Her later marraige to Master Cheif Petty Officer, George Field, brought her a second family whom she enjoyed, particularly her sister-in-law, Norma of Kansas and nieces, Sherry Hoffman, Sonnie Hilger, and Cinde Gressel (Ed). She began a career in retailing in Memphis at Lowenstein’s Department Store as Training Director. She later became a Volunteer Coordinator for the Red Cross in Memphis. Not satisfied with retirement, she later went to work as Office Manager for the Stacy Handi-Maps Company, where she continued until illness forced her to retire finally after she turned 80. She was an active member of Evergreen Presbyterian Church, particularly in the Women of the Church club. Her love of animals, particularly her Siamese cats, was well known to her friends.
