Joyce Catherine Ellis Wilhelm's Obituary
Joyce Catherine Ellis Wilhelm, 89, passed away on January 2, 2017, at Methodist Hospice Residence surrounded by her family. Mrs. Wilhelm was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, where she attended Eastern High School and Baltimore City College. She was married for 57 years to the late Donald E. Wilhelm, Sr. They were long-time communicants of St. Louis Catholic Church, and all of their children attended St. Louis School where Mrs. Wilhelm served in many volunteer roles, including president of the parents association. Later Mrs. Wilhelm joined the staff at St. Louis Church where she remained until her retirement in 1993. Mrs. Wilhelm is survived by her children, Catherine Cox (Steve) of Hamilton, Virginia; Don Wilhelm (Charlene) of Richmond, Virginia; Jim Wilhelm (Betty Creary) and Lynn Thompson of Memphis; her grandchildren Steven Cox (Tanya), Christy Cox, Sam Wilhelm-Ross (Nastia), Mitchell Thompson, Walker Thompson, and two great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Wilhelm was preceded in death by her parents: the Honorable James H. Ellis, Jr. and Catherine Sauer Ellis; her sister, Jeanne Ellis Evans; her son, Jack Dennis Wilhelm and son-in-law, Clive Thompson. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. on Friday, January 6, 2017, in the Clunan Center at St. Louis Church, followed by the Funeral Mass at 1:30 p.m. in the church sanctuary. There will be a private burial. The family requests that memorials be sent to St. Louis Church, Methodist Hospice Residence or to the donor’s charity of choice.
