Joyce Schwam Dillard's Obituary
Joyce Schwam Dillard, 78, of Memphis, died peacefully, May 12, 2010, at Vitas Hospice Care in Houston, Texas. She was preceded in death by her mother, Ethel Baron Schwam and father, Joseph Maxwell Schwam. She is survived by her brother, Bill Schwam and his wife Carolyn Schwam, of Memphis. She is also survived by her daughter, Donna Jo Dillard Miles and husband Steve Miles of Cordova and her son, Dave Dillard and wife Kelly Dillard of Katy, Texas. She also leaves five grandchildren, Jennifer Brown of Memphis and Doug Brown of New Orleans, LA, Kristin Dillard, Tyler Dillard and Darby Dillard of Katy, Texas. Joyce was a 1949 graduate of Bartlett High School and held Bachelors and Masters degrees in Education from the University of Memphis. She had a distinguished 27 year career with the Memphis City School System. After retirement, she moved to Katy, Texas and worked part time as a Builder’s representative for Chesmar Homes. Throughout her life, Joyce enjoyed extensive traveling, decorating, shopping and an intense devotion to family, friends and various church and women’s circles. Joyce was a member of St. Pauls United Methodist Church in Lakeland, TN, and also attended Living Word Lutheran Church in Katy, TX. Both the 1:30 pm visitation and 2:30 pm service will be held on Saturday, May 15, 2010, at Memorial Park Funeral home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave., Memphis, TN. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be sent to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
