Joy Berretta's Obituary
Helen Joy Jerry Berretta, 88, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2015 at Methodist Hospice House. A lifelong Memphian, Joy graduated from Messick High School, and attended the University of Memphis where she was chosen the first sweetheart of Pi Kappa Alpha. In her later years, Joy received an Associate’s Degree in Interior Design from LaSalle University. A former beauty queen, local model, and an airline stewardess for Southern Airlines, she was also known as an accomplished artist and interior decorator. She loved to cook, sew, sing, and play cards, but her passion was her family. Her vivacious personality served her well as President of the Saint Agnes Academy Mother’s Club, Madonna Circle, Circle Arts, and the Red Hat Society. She is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Louis A. Berretta, Jr. Joy is survived by her children, Suzanne (Patrick) Parker, Rosemary (Steve) Fergus, and Louis (Vicky) Berretta III; a sister, Jean Jerry Garbarini; 5 granddaughters and 12 great-grandchildren. Joy’s family wishes to thank the staff at Methodist Hospice House who lovingly cared for her at the end of her journey. Services will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Monday, September 28. Visitation is from 11:00 am to 1:00pm to be followed by a brief service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to either Methodist Hospice House or the Church Health Center in her honor.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119, “Celebrating Life… Behind the Stone Wall”
