Josephine H Santi's Obituary
JOSEPHINE ANNARATONE SANTI, 94, passed away Friday, September 4, 2009, at Signature Healthcare at St. Francis. She was preceded in death by her devoted Mother, Seconda Annaratone Facelli, and more recently by her late husband, Donato Santi. She is survived by her son, Albert Santi, and daughters, Dolores “Dodie” (Tommy) Jagendorf and Rita Grivich; two grandchildren, Gina Grivich (Dan) Farrar of Nashville, and Marcus Santi; and two great grandchildren, Maxwell Josephine and Rody James Farrar. Mrs. Santi, a graduate of Whitehaven High School, married and relocated to midtown where she and her husband reared their family. Working side by side at their South Barksdale grocery store, Weona #9, they enjoyed serving their customers, many of whom became loyal friends. After becoming empty-nesters, she and her husband retired and moved out East to be near their children, and owned and operated small retail businesses. Mrs. Santi was well-noted for her culinary talents, reflective of her northern Italian roots. Her grandson so aptly remarked that very few people loved the way his grandmother loved. She was a ray of sunshine to all she met and knew, and her life was truly a testament to the adage “it is better to give than to receive.” For those blessed enough to be on the receiving end, we say thank you, Josie, for caring enough to be the very best. The family also wishes to thank her devoted caregivers, Lola Noel and Dorothy Nelson, and the supportive staff on the 4th floor of Signature Healthcare. Donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, September 7 at Memorial Park Funeral Home, located at 5668 Poplar Ave., with a rosary to be said at the end. Funeral mass will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 8 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 4851 Park Ave. Entombment will be in the Memorial Park Mausoleum.
