Joseph Hamilton Sellers' Obituary
Joseph Hamilton Sellers, age 80, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2026, in Memphis, Tennessee.
Born on July 7, 1945, in Frederick, MD, Joe was the son of William Dewey Sellers and Dorothy Jean Sellers. He lived a life defined by courage, loyalty, adventure, and a deep love for his family and friends.
Joe graduated from Hot Springs High School in Hot Springs, AR, in 1963 before earning his Bachelor of Business degree from the University of Arkansas at Monticello. His education laid the foundation for a successful career and a lifelong appreciation for learning and new experiences.
Joe proudly served his country in the United States Army with the 1st Calvary Division (Airmobile) during the Vietnam War. He served during the Tet Offensive in Saigon and Hue and was a member of the elite Long-Range Reconnaissance Patrol (LRRP) unit, where he earned numerous medals, commendations, and the nickname “Flash”. His military service reflected the bravery, resilience, and selflessness that remained hallmarks of his character throughout his career.
On October 4, 2025, Joe and his beloved wife, Nancy Lee Sellers celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary – a milestone that reflected five decades of unwavering love, partnership, and devotion.
Joe embraced life with a spirit of adventure. An avid traveler, he enjoyed exploring new places and experiencing different cultures, always returning home with stories to share. He also found his greatest joy outdoors. Whether golfing, hunting, skiing, or riding dirt bikes, Joe pursued each passion with enthusiasm and built countless lifelong friendships along the way. His love of adventure was matched only by the friendships he cultivated and the memories he created with those fortunate enough to share them.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, William Dewey Sellers and Dorothy Jean Seller, and his brother, William Blair “Bud” Sellers.
He is survived by his loving wife of more than 50 years, Nancy Lee Sellers; his sisters, Judy Smith, Suzanne Carleson (Dan), and Karol Ann Sellers (Abraham); many nephews and nieces; and many extended family members and dear friends whose lives were enriched by his kindness, humor, and steadfast friendship.
Joe will be remembered for his quiet strength, generous heart, adventurous spirit, unwavering patriotism, and steadfast dedication to those he loved. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched, the friendships he cherished, and the memories that will forever be held close by family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, Tennessee. Military honors will be rendered promptly at 2:00 p.m., followed by a casual visitation and celebration of Joe’s life. Family and friends are invited to gather to honor his service, share memories, and celebrate a life well lived.
