Joseph Clifton Kirby's Obituary
Joseph Clifton Kirby, age 81, passed away at his home on April 3, 2022, after living with cancer for almost two years. Joe was born in Paragould, Arkansas on May 17, 1940, to Joseph Moody Kirby and Effie Victoria Kirby (née Lawler). He graduated from the University of Arkansas with a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, and received his MBA from Memphis State University. He married Marilynn Sue Beliew in 1963 and moved to Memphis, Tennessee where he worked as a process chemist. He and Marilynn moved to Bartlett, Tennessee shortly before the birth of their daughter, Tara; they both resided there until their deaths.
Joe was curious, smart, and self-reliant, and was very devoted to his family. It was rare that he was not working on a home project or gardening, particularly in fine weather. He was a strong believer in education and taught his daughter to be curious and encouraged her to pursue her dreams. Joe was always willing to lend a hand to a neighbor.
Joe was predeceased by his wife, Marilynn, in 2020. He is survived by his daughter, Tara Kirby, his son-in-law, Doug Rowland, and his grandson, Liam Kirby.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish to remember Joe are invited to contribute to a charity of their choice in his name. He particularly loved helping animals and a donation to a local animal shelter would be welcomed, although all donations to any charitable organizations are appreciated.
