Joseph M. Kelly's Obituary
Joseph M. Kelly was born on August 19, 1938, in Hughestown, PA. As a young boy, Joe learned that hard work and dedication paid off. Raised by his mom, 2 brothers, and a sister, he contributed to the household by working odd jobs: including picking coal and a paper route. He started piano lessons at a young age and quickly developed into a virtuoso, playing the Warsaw Concerto from memory for his high school graduation. Joe was a talented athlete and was a football and baseball star. While in high school, he also met the love of his life, Mary Jo, and had some serious choices to make. He attended prep school while playing football and baseball in hopes pf a college scholarship. Although he was scouted a few times, life took him in other directions, working various jobs and learning trade skills that led to a job in the steel mill. He and Mary Jo got married, and shortly afterward, Joe got the job at the US Post Office. This would be the decision of a lifetime resulting in a very successful career. Joe was recruited to join the US Postal Inspection Service. Through many years of hard work and dedication, he rose to one of the highest positions in the organization- The Regional Chief Inspector of the Southern Region of the United States. In retirement, Joe loved playing golf with friends and family and even made the coveted lifetime achievement of a hole-in-one. Joe and Mary Jo had 5 children and a wonderful life together. Joe passed away on April 25, 2026, at 87 years of age. A loving and dedicated husband, father, and grandfather, will be dearly missed.
