Joseph Anthony Carlson's Obituary
Joseph Anthony Carlson, 71, went to be with the Lord on January 25, 2019.Joe was born in Philadelphia and was the older brother of Tony Carlson (Loraine) with whom he had many adventures. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Irving and Rosina Carlson. He was married to the love of his life, Marie Florio Carlson, for 48 years, with whom he built a beautiful life. He was an avid Memphis Tiger fan who enjoyed reading spy novels and spending time with family and friends.Joe treasured time with his daughter Janna Carlson Hacker (Dennis), son Erik Carlson (Quinn), and especially his grandchildren (Abby and Bobby Hacker, and Matej, Callum and Cicely Carlson). His grandchildren loved his fantastical “boy stories” at bedtime and days on the lake with their captain, Pop Pop.After earning his BA and MBA from Fordham University in NY, Joe was fortunate to begin his life-long career in the insurance industry and was proud to consider his coworkers family. He was a 4th degree knight in The Knights of Columbus at The Church of the Holy Spirit where he was a communicant for over 35 years. A kind, generous man, Joe was always helping others in need and sharing his love with his family. He will be deeply missed. We pray for him to be touched by His “Amazing Grace.”Visitation will be held at The Church of the Holy Spirit on Tuesday, January 29th from 5-7pm. The funeral mass will be at noon on Wednesday, January 30th, followed by a reception at the church.Donations may be made in his honor to St. Jude.Arrangements entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery 5668 Poplar Ave Memphis. “Celebrating Life….Behind the Stone Wall.”
