Jonathan Clay Young's Obituary
Jonathan Clay Young passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on May 14, 2024 from complications of ALS. He was 76 years old and resided in Memphis, TN with his beloved wife, Rhonda.
Clay was born in Memphis, TN on December 22, 1947 to his parents John Calendar and Beatrice Wilson Young. He moved with his family in 1963 to Ft Lauderdale, Florida. He graduated from Ft. Lauderdale High School in 1965. entered the U.S. Marine Corps on February 23, 1966 and achieved the rank Sergeant. He married Kathleen Whipple in 1970 and they raised their children in Ft. Lauderdale.
He moved to Little Rock, AR in 2005 and married Rhonda Fay Wilson in 2006. They moved to Memphis in 2019.
Clay was a residential contractor, a master carpenter, and a talented wood artist. He was an avid soccer player for over 40 years. He and Rhonda traveled around the country, from coast to coast, and to Denmark, for various soccer tournaments. They made lifelong friendships with their "soccer family."
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Linda Bea Koehn.
Clay is survived by his loving wife, Rhonda; his children, Jason Christopher Young, Lexington, SC; Paul Michael Young (Stacy), Canton, NC; Justin Clay Young (Brielle), Waupun, WI; Katrina Danielle Young (Alex), Miami, FL; a sister, Phyllis Joann DePriest (Gary), Byhalia, MS; a brother Rodney Thomas Young, Dallas, TX; sisters-in-law Pamela Ruth Wilson, Memphis, TN and Susan Leigh Duffell (Chad), Lexington, GA. He is survived by 9 grandchildren, Tabitha Faith, Jayden Christopher, Jace Clay, Meadow Hajila, Jakodi Cougar, Phelan Rhyver, and Irelynn Rose Young, McKayla Rhayne McCormick, and Gabriel Jonathan Frades; many cousins, nieces and nephews.
There will be a graveside service on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at 10:00, at Memorial Park, Memphis, TN. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the ALS Association.
