Jolanda Marietta Penczner's Obituary
JOLANDA MARIETTA SCHUBATH PENCZNER died on Sunday, March 12, 2023, at the age of 97 after a long and fulfilling life. Mrs. Penczner was born in the city of Insterburg, East-Prussia, now part of the Russian Federation’s Kaliningrad province. Following WWII, she married Paul Joseph Penczner of Hungary, and they immigrated to the United States in 1951. Her husband was a renowned artist and Jolanda was his favorite subject. Jolanda herself was very creative and showcased her jewelry creations at her gift shop, the Penczner’s Round Corner Gift Shop in midtown for many years, where she also promoted the artworks of many local artists. Jolanda was predeceased by her husband, Paul Joseph Penczner, her son, Peter Alexander Penczner and her daughter-in-law, Deborah Penczner. She is survived by her sons, Marius and his wife Nancy of Potomac, Maryland, Paul and his wife Jung-Mi (Rosita) of Decatur, Georgia, four grandsons, Paul, Andrew, Steven, and Anthony, and a host of Eastern-European, professional, and artistic friends throughout the South. A Memorial Mass will be held at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Monday, April 17, to begin at 1:30 p.m. where the family will be available for visitation immediately following the service. Private Internment will follow at Memorial Park Funeral Home. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Paul and Jolanda Penczner Research Scholarship at the University of Tennessee or the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
