John E Yearwood's Obituary
John E. Yearwood, 72, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on November 7, 2022, at Baptist Memorial Hospital after a courageous battle with esophageal cancer. John’s beloved family was by his side.
John is survived by his wife of 45 years, Patricia Smith Yearwood. He also leaves four daughters: Shannon Hart, Christi Kubis, Erin Ryan (Terry), Cynthia Yearwood, and one brother, Charles Yearwood of Memphis.
John was blessed with 11 grandchildren whom he adored: Kelsey Wallace (Trevor), Allyson Hart, John Dixon Ryan, Victoria Richardson, Anna Grace Ryan, Patrick Richardson, Jacob Kubis, Tiarrah Bolton, McKinley Ryan, Lucas Kubis, and Henry Yearwood. The newest family member and light of his life was his first great grandchild, Evelyn Wallace.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Shirley Yearwood.
John lived most of his life in the Desoto County/Shelby County area. He retired from FedEx Services with 38 years of service as Chief Engineering Specialist Principal/ Enterprise Voice Architecture (aka “The Phone Guy”). John was an active member of Hope Church in Cordova TN and faithfully served Hope in the coffee ministry, as a greeter and on the Scrubs Team.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be sent to the Oasis of Hope Ministry https://www.oohmemphis.com, to the Le Bonheur Child Life Fund or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
The family is thankful for the excellent care John received from his doctors, nurses and all staff members at The West Clinic, Duke University Hospital, Baptist Memorial Hospital, Gastro One, Minimally Invasive Surgery, Baptist Medical Group and Dr. Calvin Mullins.
John’s celebration of life service will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Friday, November 11, 2022 at 1:00p in the Riverside Chapel. The family will receive guests an hour before the service. Following the service, burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. A reception will immediately follow burial in The Event Center of the funeral home.
