John B. Wood's Obituary
John B. Wood, Sr., of Germantown, 61, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on December 3rd, 2012, at Methodist Germantown Hospital. He leaves his wife of 41 years, Marie Wood; son, John B. Wood, Jr.; daughter, Christi M. Wood; grandchildren, Jocelyn M. Wood and Catarina M. Wood; nephews, Derek Meyers and Timothy Wood; as well as his niece, Christine R. Wood; and a host of friends and colleagues. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Berl Wood and Leona Rose Elliott Wood; and a brother, George Elliott Wood. John was a member at Germantown Baptist Church, where he was active in the video crew. He was an amateur radio operator (WV5J) and was very active in the Tri-State Repeater Association. John was a former writer for the Commercial Appeal, a former editor for the Daily News in Memphis and the Pocahontas Star Herald. In addition, he was a former sports editor and reporter for the Evening Times in West Memphis. Most recently, John was a new products columnist for CQ, an international amateur radio magazine. The family will receive friends Thursday, December 6th, from 5 until 8 at Memorial Park. A funeral service will be held at 11:30, Friday, December 7th at Memorial Park Funeral Home, with burial to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
