John Vernor's Obituary
John H. Vernor, Jr., 76, of Memphis, passed away March 25th 2016 after a long illness. John was a former Marine and retired as Vice-President from Yarbrough Cable Service, Inc. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Millington. John was a nature enthusiast where he enjoyed fly fishing, photography, and hunting. He was an amazing artist and all of his children and grandchildren cherish the art galleries in their homes from his life’s work. He was a pilot and spent many years flying small planes. In 2011 he elected to get an LVAD heart pump as he could no longer survive from heart disease. He knew life would be tough surviving on such equipment but he wanted to be around to help care for his beloved wife of 56 years and see her through her illnesses. In October of 2015, John got to help usher his bride home to be with our Lord. He peacefully joined her on Good Friday. It’s a beautiful love story. He always put his family first and made life a lot of fun. He is preceded in death by his parents, John H. Vernor, Sr. and Fronia Newcomb Vernor, his beloved wife, Patricia J. Vernor, and a daughter, Kitty Baker. He leaves behind his children, Holly Oliver (Rocky) of Bartlett, Bonnie Henry (Tommy) of Arlington, and Michael Vernor (Debbie) of Memphis. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and a sister, Julia Ann Garner of Smyrna Beach, FL. The family requests that memorials be made to the Millington Crisis Center.
