John Sidney Taylor's Obituary
John Sidney Taylor, 80, of Memphis went home to be with his Lord and Savior Wednesday, July 22, 2009. After a year long battle with cancer, John passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family.He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 39 years, beginning his career in Dallas, TX as a part-time mail sorter and retiring as Manager of Delivery for the Southern Regional U.S. Post Office in Memphis, TN. John dedicated his life to serving God, his family and his church. He was an active member and door greeter at Second Presbyterian Church and throughout his illness he spoke of how much he wanted to get back to his door greeter job. John never met a stranger and was always the first to help someone in need.John is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Betty Gene Taylor, three children, Julianne Fancher (Ken) of Memphis, Rebecca Lynn Cottle (Bill) of Sugarland, TX, John Sidney Taylor, Jr. (Pam) of Collierville, eight grandchildren, Jonathan Fancher, Natalie Fancher, Kelly Cottle, Clint Cottle (Katy), Chris Cottle, Clayton Taylor, Lindsay Kane (Mike), Rachel Browning (Ryan), one great grandchild, Jackson Kane; sisters, Grace McEwen, Mary Adkins; brothers, W.S. Taylor, Jr. (Betty), Daniel R. Taylor (Beverly), and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister Erma Ruyle. The Family would like to give a special thanks to all our friends who offered support to us this past year and especially to Dr. Alexandar Jankov and the nurses of the Family Cancer Center at Baptist East Hospital and the nurses of the Baptist East Plaza Diagnostic Pavilion.A Family Graveside Service will be held at 9:45 a.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Second Presbyterian Church.The family requests that contributions be made to the Lindsay Taylor Kane fund for the benefit of Lindsay’s (John and Betty’s Granddaughter) stem cell transplant.
