John Selberg's Obituary
John Roy Selberg, 85, passed away August 31, 2016. He was born June 11, 1931 in Worthington, Minnesota and grew up on a dairy farm in Bigelow, Minnesota. He served for 20 years as a pilot in the U.S. Air Force serving in Vietnam and flying the C-123 and KC135 among other planes before retiring as a lieutenant colonel in 1972. He then joined FedEx as a commercial pilot in 1973 and flew the Falcon, 737, 727, and DC-10 before retiring in 1998 after 26 years. While he was proud of his career the highlight of his life was spending time with his family and especially his grand children that fondly called him “Papa.” He was preceded in death by his parents, Anna and Roy Selberg. He was loved by and will be missed by his wife of 57 years, Rieta Selberg; son, John Selberg (Tina), Jim Selberg (Melinda), David Selberg (Robin); brother, Albert Selberg (Doris); and grandchildren, Ashley, Kellie, John William, Davis, Ben, Mary Ragan, and Griffin. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. and funeral services will follow at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 3 at Independent Presbyterian Church in Memphis Tennessee. A burial service will be in Memorial Park Cemetery following the funeral service. The family wishes that in lieu of flowers, donations are made to Bethany Christian Services (Bethany in Memphis) or the Independent Presbyterian Church Benevolence Fund. Arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119, “Celebrating Life Behind the Stone Wall”.
