John Hackett Russell, Jr. November 25, 1923-March 30, 2014 John Hackett Russell, Jr. Age 90 was born November 25, 1923 to John H. Russell and Marvene C. Russell. Preceded in death by his parents, wife of 66 years, Helen Childress Russell, Son, Robert Lee Russell, Daughter In Law, Margaret Braden Russell, sister Millie Russell Sutherland and brother Edwin Curry Russell. Survived by Daughter Nan Russell Woody (Mike) of Destin, FL., John Hackett Russell III, of Nashville, TN Daughter In Law, Kim Bullard Russell, Fayetteville, AR, Grandsons, Russ Woody, Michael Woody, Robert Russell, Hack Russell, Grandaughters, Catherine Woody, Helen Russell, Sister Susanne Russell and Brother Woody (Dixie) Russell. Also survived by nephew and nieces from the Sutherland side of the family whom he thought of as his own children. John was a proud veteran of World War II, having served his country in the Army Air Corps during the European campaign. His business career spanned 38 years with the real estate division of Amoco Oil Company ending in Atlanta when he retired and returned to his hometown of Memphis where he and Helen where active in many church and civic activities. John’s hobbies included golf and planning family reunions. John will be remembered for his charm and engaging personality. He was always the first person there and the last one to leave, a true extrovert. The family would like to express a special thanks to all the staff and “Pals” of Belmont Village in Nashville, TN where John resided at the time of his death. The care and love they gave to John during his years there were truly a blessing to him in his final years of life. Services will be held at 10:30 at Memorial Park in Memphis, TN. I lieu of flowers, the family asked the a donation be made to Alive Hospice 1718 Patterson Street Nashville, TN 37203 or a charity of or choice.
