John P. Roberts' Obituary
John P. Roberts, a devoted husband, beloved family member, and respected attorney, passed away at his home on May 19, 2025, at the age of 74 in Bartlett, Tennessee. He was surrounded by family and friends.
Born on August 22, 1950, in Memphis, TN, John was the son of William Harold Roberts and Frances Louise Wiseman. A 1968 graduate of Hillcrest High School, he went on to earn his undergraduate degree from the University of Tennessee at Martin, followed by an MBA from Memphis State University. Demonstrating remarkable dedication, he attended law school at night while working full time and earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Memphis in 1981.
John began his professional life as a systems analyst for IBM before transitioning to a successful legal career. As a respected attorney in Bartlett, he specialized in real estate law and also gave back to his community by serving on the Bartlett Planning Commission.
For 51 years, John was a loving husband to Kathy Evans Roberts. Affectionately known as “Uncle John” to a wide circle of nieces, nephews, and the children of close friends, he and Kathy made their home in Bartlett, TN, where they built a life full of warmth, laughter, and hospitality.
John was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Jack Roberts, and his sister Jane Allen. He is survived by his wife, Kathy; brothers Jim and Jeff (Becky) Roberts; sisters-in-law, Nancy Roberts and Martha Roberts; and several cherished nieces and nephews.
An avid University of Tennessee football fan and a dedicated member of Oliver Creek Church of Christ, John will be remembered not only for his intellect and professional integrity but also for his kindness, loyalty, and the joy he brought to the lives of those around him. As many would say, “He was the best friend anyone could have.”
