JOHN WESTON “J.W.” OSWALT, was born the son of Charles Napoleon Oswalt and Clara Lavada Hamill Oswalt on August 1, 1925 in Memphis, TN and departed this life November 16, 2013 in Memphis after suffering 13 years from Alzheimer’s. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Hazel Anderson Oswalt; children, Chuck (Kay) Oswalt of Hernando, MS; Deri (Randall) Whittaker of Bartlett; four grandchildren, Rebecca (Steven) Stewart of Southaven, MS; Adam (Nicole) Whittaker of Manheim Township, PA; Chris (Jennifer) Oswalt of Memphis, TN, and Aaron (Tara) Whittaker of Arlington, TN; six great-grandchildren; Jackson Oswalt, Weston and Allison Stewart, Jake, Shelby and Aubrey Whittaker; and a sister, Evelyn Moore. J.W. served his country in WWII and the Korean War as a PT Boat Torpedoman. He retired as the Chief Claims Agent from Illinois Central Gulf Railroad. J.W. and his wife, Hazel, enjoyed traveling, golf, friends and family. He was one of those unique people who knew how to balance family and career with meaningful friendships and an everlasting love for family that can’t be replicated. He will be missed dearly and remembered by his family as a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and each feel blessed to have had him in their lives. The family will receive friends and relatives at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN, Thursday, November 21 at 1:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the Fireside Chapel of Memorial Park at 2:30 p.m. Flowers are welcome, memorials may be sent to the charity of choice in his memory.
