John Cundiff McDonald, Sr.'s Obituary
John Cundiff McDonald, Sr., 87, of Memphis, TN passed away peacefully surrounded by family in Germantown, TN at 3:29 pm on Monday, October 1st, 2018. He was born on February 28th, 1931 in Memphis, TN where he was raised, the youngest of three children. He was a graduate of Central High School, class of 1948 and worked for Pontiac Motor Division of General Motors for more than 30 years. He devoted his life to serving his church, his family, and his community. He and his wife, Peggy, were married for 56 years and raised three loving children and four grandchildren. He was an active member of Asbury United Methodist Church with his wife, where, among many other activities, he led numerous service trips to Mountain T.O.P., a ministry dedicated to service in the Tennessee Cumberland Mountains. He was an active member in the Memphis Chrysalis and Emmaus Community, and led the first Emmaus Walk in England. He delivered Meals on Wheels through MIFA with his wife for many years. In his later years, he devoted his time to caring for his wife during her battle with Alzheimer’s disease.He is preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Joyce Morgan McDonald; his parents, Fred Morgan McDonald, Jr and Kate Lee Cundiff McDonald; and his brother, Fred Morgan McDonald III.He is survived by his three children, John Cundiff McDonald, Jr. (Madeline), Nancy Joyce McDonald Kornegay (Gary), and Mary Margaret McDonald; his four grandchildren, Cassie Michelle McDonald, Kellie McDonald Chapman (Derek), John Morgan Kornegay, and Kate Kornegay Madison (Harry); and his sister, Kate McDonald Dangler.Visitation will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home Thursday, October 4th from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Services will be at 11:30 am on Friday, October 5th at Memorial Park Funeral Home.
