John David McAlister's Obituary
John David McAlister, 80, passed away peacefully at his home in Memphis, Tennessee, on September 24, 2020. David was born on August 11, 1940 in Pine Bluff , Arkansas. David was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Hattie McAlister, and his beloved wife of 28 years, Renea Jones McAlister, who passed away in 2014 . He leaves behind seven children; Terry (Jeremy), Grace (Bentley), Kathryn (Chris), David Jr., Jonathan (Shellye), Mary Hattie and Drew as well as 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
David grew up in Whitehaven where he attended Whitehaven High School and excelled at football and baseball. As an avid golfer his entire adult life, David frequented Whitehaven Country Club and still had golf games weekly with his son, Drew, and his golfing buddies. He recorded a personal best of 63 earlier in 2020.
David always looked forward to Saturdays in the fall when he could cheer on his beloved Mississippi State Bulldogs (Hail State!). He worked on the Mississippi River most of his life before moving into the real estate development industry in the late 80s and early 90s.
Anyone that knew David knew his quiet demeanor, tender heart, relaxed way of looking at life, and his generous spirit. David never refused a friend in need and was there for many. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends.
Services will be help at Memorial Park on Poplar with visitation starting at 9:00am with the service following at 10:00am. A private burial will follow. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made generously and with an open heart to the charity of one’s choice.
