John Matthew Pirtle's Obituary
John Matthew “Matt” Pirtle, 51, left us Monday morning, August 4, 2014. He served in the U.S. Navy. Matt was a quadriplegic—his accident was in 1997. However, he never let his handicaps interfere with the normal life he lived and lived his life to the fullest. He loved the Lord. He traveled to the Philippines and met his wife, Alyn. He graduated from Southwest Tennessee Community College and Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics. He traveled to Texas, Arkansas, Missouri, Florida and California. He went to Disney Land and Disney World, Six Flags Over Missouri, and the ocean. He flew all over the country and walked his daughter down the aisle when she got married. If he could help someone, he always did. He loved James and his brothers. He loved Alyn, who took the best care of him. He is survived by his wife of 8 years, Alyn Pirtle; daughter, Sasha Rain; granddaughter, Calisto Rodriquez; brother, Joe G. Jernigan; mother, Judy Bekvac; grandmother, Elsie Ross; nephew, Hayden Jernigan; sister, Connie Pirtle and Mary Holly Pirtle; brother, Robert Lee Pirtle (Jr.); aunt, Deana Goad; and a number of cousin and aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Lee Pirtle (Sr.); grandfather, Malcolm E. Ross; and caregiver, James Granpsam. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, August 6 and funeral services will be 2:30 p.m., Thursday, August 7 at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119, ” Behind the Stone Wall”.
