John David Macon Jr.'s Obituary
His life was a beautiful memory. Now he sits in God’s beautiful garden, in the sunshine of perfect peace.
John David Macon, Jr. passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at home surrounded by loved ones after a short but courageous battle with cancer. He was born February 02, 1952, in Memphis, Tennessee to John David Macon, Sr. and Barbara Joyce Macon. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Eastern Star Missionary Baptist Church where he was a faithful and active member for many years.
John was educated in the Memphis City School System and graduated from Central High School in the class of 1969. He attended Memphis State University, now known as the University of Memphis.
He was employed at Mead Containers in Memphis, Tennessee until he moved to Houston, Texas in August of 1982. In Houston, he was a longtime employee of Sylvan Plastics where he was employed as a Production Shift Supervisor until his retirement in 2017.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John Sr. And Barbara Macon; his brother, Maurice Macon; his sister, Barbara Ann Macon; and a niece, Shandra Henderson.
John leaves to cherish his memories: his life partner of 48 years, Marvin A. Cox; his two daughters, Danita Macon (Cathy) of Las Cruces, New Mexico, and Alyssa LeSueur (Andre) of Memphis, TN; his favorite son, John David Macon III of Chicago, IL; their mother and his best friend, Pamela Gatewood Macon of Memphis, TN; his loving sister, Brenda Houston of Memphis, TN; his brothers, Clifton Macon (Annette) of Memphis, TN, and Percy Macon (Onnie) of Peoria, IL; grandchildren, Marshall Washington of Houston, TX, Brittni Moore of Atlanta, GA, Kolby Moore of Memphis, TN, Justin Moore of Horn Lake, MS and Alex Bailey of Seattle, WA; great-grandchildren, Mason Washington and Maisie Washington; brother-in-law, Christopher Cox (Jacques); sisters-in-law, Gayle Cox and Jenny Pertiller (Reginald); and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
